I ended up falling asleep again in the fort thing. Sleeping on the floor wasn't too bad even though it was hard. I sat up and yawned, then opened the makeshift door. I squinted to the bright light and stood. I rubbed my eyes and blinked.
Someone immediately had decided to poke me in the side, making me jump and squeak. Dan laughed and picked me up, throwing me over his shoulder. Thank god I was wearing shorts under my skirt.
"It's after six, 'bout time you got up."
I frowned and hit him as he called a goodbye to Yao and Rover. I yawned as he reached the tower door, the darker sky making me more tired than it should have. Several half demons who walked by gave us weird looks, probably because Dan was carrying me when I was perfectly capable of walking. Near the entrance to Dan's tower, there was a woman who looked in her late twenties. She wore a dark purple dress that went just past her knees. Her brownish hair dropped to the middle of her back, perfectly straight. I asked Dan who she was, but she already seen us.
Dan muttered swear words as she walked up to us. He put me down.
"Mr. Romano, is that you? My, I haven't seen you since last semester." She turned and looked me over. "I haven't seen you before. Your name?"
I shivered as I thought of lying, but went against it.
"Alice..."
"Alice...Févi?" She leaned closer and I tried turning my head to hide my eyes, but she grabbed my chin and forced me to face her.
"Ah, so it is you," She grabbed my arm and started dragging me off. "Just be lucky I found you and not a higher up. How long have you been here?"
"Since yesterday." I muttered.
"Ah, so you've been with Mr. Romano I presume. Hmmm....I'm Ms. Jakk, I teach basic magic to the witches and wizards here. I supose they'll stick you in a bunch of classes now that your here. By the way, you look so cute in that uniform!"
Jakk let go of my arm and for some strange reason I kept following. Random wasn't really the word for it...Why did I always get the crazy teachers?
Jakk lead me away from the towers, on a random path, to a random far away building. It was tall and dark, it looked like the place the bad guy would sleep in a horror movie. You know, dark walls, stormy looking clouds that appear out of nowhere, and huge creepy ass wood doors that I now stood in front of.
Jakk opened the door and lead the way once again. I followed hesitantly. Inside was the same as the outside, dark and depressing. Mostly my style. Beyond the door was an open space, floating candles lighting the way to a grand stair case covered in a blood red carpet. Jakk took my hand and pulled me behind her.
"No need to be worried, the Council is very nice. Kind of...I guess...Okay, not really."
I rolled my eyes. At the top of the staircase it split into two directions. The hall on the right was dotted with doors while the other side was one of those halls you know you shouldn't go down, but you will anyway cause you the stupid main character of a horror movie. She stopped me when we reached the end of the ridiculously long hall, only to stand in front of another door.
"Stay here, run and I will find you."
I leaned against the wall as Jakk opened the small door and disappeared. She was gone for at least an hour before she came back.
"Okay Alice, come on in."
Okay, so the room was huge, to the point where if I even talked it would have echoed. The room was round, and kind of set up like a court room. A long table was at the edge of the room, starting near the door by me and ending on the other side. Several people were seated already, and I could tell right away the dude sitting in the middle was in charge.
Jakk sat me right in the middle of the circle in a not so comfy chair, to face everyone. I could tell that most of the council was just made up of teachers, from every race by the looks of it. Several groaned about being there, mostly the tall buff dude. Werewolf for sure. I spotted out the Necromancers easily, the really pale people who looked like they were talking to themselves. Half demons were easy too, since most had either bright hair or eyes, or just didn't look that human at all. I frowned though when a vampire walked in. I knew it was required that at least one of high status had to be there to speak for the rest. But still. I dated a vampire once. I wasn't the greatest experience.
Everyone stopped complaining when the middle guy stood. I picked at my black nail polish.
"Friends, I apologize for the sudden gathering, but we have been summoned for a good reason." He gestured towards me. Ever pair of eyes turned in my direction, seeming to examine me.
"This, my friends, is Miss Févi. She was to be tested, but, after much thought, I have deemed it unnecessary. Instead, I have decided to let her attend classes where teachers can keep an eye on her and her abilities."
What the hell. The guy did know I was in the room right? I death glared the guy, but it went wasted.
"Miss Févi will be staying here until she is deemed safe to the magic world. We were informed she currently a level five, so we can take no chances. Now, any objections?"
I could kill this guy. Stab him in his sleep. Who the hell did he think he was, trying to keep me here? I was glad when several hands went up.
"If this...Févi... is such a threat, why keep her here? I don't wish to endanger the other students."
Ugh. Leave it to a necromancer to make me sound like an object.
"Ah, there are several level four and five teachers here, and I believe they could easily over power her if such things go out of hand. Now, the room she shall be staying in is designed so no magic at all can be used except by several people, including myself. Any further objections?"
I lost it when no one put up their hand. I opened my mouth to yell some things I'd probably regret later, but that's when I realized someone had casted a silence spell on me. I figured I could have broken the spell on my own, and I was mad enough too, but it seemed like the only way I could get freedom was if I was to behave myself. Ugh.
After the 'meeting' thing, Jakk led me out, trying to explain some rules.
"Okay, since you basically under suspicion, your staying with the other level three plusses. Hey, don't look so sad, the higher your level, the more privileges you get. Basically it's to keep you guys happy so you don't snap and kill us all or something. I didn't tell you that by the way."
I sighed and kept walking.
"Aw, don't be too depressed. If it makes you feel better there's only one other level three student right now, Miss Alexia. I suppose it would do some good for the bother of you if you corrupted her into wearing all that eyeliner and not caring about magic like another certain witch."
"I care about magic, just...not so much anymore."
She shrugged and pointed to the largest tower. It was wide, but short, maybe only two or three floors max.
"Top floor is yours. Go and I'll get your stuff."
I practically puked as I opened the door. It was all the most disgusting shade of the girlish pink I've ever seen. And it was everywhere. The walls, the carpet....I walked up the short stair case and grabbed the door handle closest. Locked. Of course.
I tried everyone of then and naturally the only open one was Alexia's room. I sat on one of the two beds in the room, avoiding the pinkness. I snapped and was puzzled when nothing happened, but remembered the thing about minimizing powers. Crap. No black walls for me then.
When Jakk walked through the door empty handed I was surprised, but then seen Dan following with all my crap. He put it all near the bed I was sitting on.
"I'm not really sharing a room with this pinhead, am I?" I crossed my arms.
Jakk nodded, kind of sorry looking.
"Sorry Alice, but it'll be easier to watch over both of you if you're in the same room."
Dan sat beside me on the bed, wrapping an arm around my waist, despite my protests.
"I can watch over her if you want."
Jakk rolled her eyes and grabbed his ear, pulling him off.
"We need more witches and wizards in the magical world, but that doesn't give you permission to knock up Alice. It's just you and your hand for a while, Mr. Romano."
I probably would have cried from laughing if the Pinhead Queen herself hadn't walked in.
